On 30 September, a press conference announcing the National Day of Sports on the “Orlik” national pitches was held at Chełmska Street in Warszawa.

For the first time in history, more than 100,000 people on 380 pitches across Poland will participate in a sports and leisure event, which will start on Saturday, September 9 at 11:00 am.

This year’s first "Sports Day on Orlik” in history is a family event aimed at intergenerational integration. The organizers of this unprecedented nationwide event will be animators implementing the program of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism entitled "Local Sports Animator 2017", which is operated by the Foundation for Physical Education Development.

- Aware of the role and significance of physical activity in the era of civilization development and the disturbing tendency of mass PE sick notes, we want the Orlik Sports Day to become a regular, annual event, which in time will become a flagship sporting event on every Polish pitch.  Together with more than 600 sports animators, with the invaluable support of our partners and sponsors, we will prove all children, young people and their families that Orlik is a good place to spend free time", says Łukasz Strzelecki, President of the Foundation for Physical Education Development.

The ambassadors of the event were outstanding sport champions who will appear at Orlik pitches on the day of the event and will encourage their families to take part in sporting rivalry in the spirit of fair play. There will be basketball player Cezary Trybański, football player Maciej Szczęsny or judo fighter, Krzysztof Wiłkomirski.

Sports clubs, which are the beneficiaries of the Governmental Program knowns as "KLUB", were also invited to participate in the event.

- We want Polish people to be healthy and physically fit. The Ministry of Sport and Tourism conducts a series of activities aimed at activating children and young people. The Governmental Program "KLUB" is a support for small and medium-sized clubs, where the adventure with sport of future champions often begins. We are responsible for the young generation therefore we have a wide offer. I hope that the "Sports Day at Orlik" will be a new sport tradition and a fantastic way to say goodbye to summer holidays - says Jan Widera, Undersecretary of State at MSiT.

Each animator will implement a one-type scenario for all venues with competitions that allow for joint sports fun. Also, at several Orliks ​​from the Lower Silesian Province, the main sponsor of "Sports Day at Orlik", KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. and the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation, planned additional attractions.

- KGHM has been the animator of a healthy and active lifestyle for years. We support the development of professional sport players but also its supporters among children and young people. KGHM Zagłębie Football Academy is the origin of sport talents, which conducts training for 420 players in all age categories. This year's KGHM Kids Cup event was attended by more than 1200 children and youth from around the region.  KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation has granted 115 donations this year for the amount of PLN 2.5 million for the development of sport and recreation - says the President of the Management Board of the KGHM Polska Miedź SA Foundation. Thanks to team sports, we provide timeless values ​​that can be used beyond sporting rivalry. Collaboration, orientation towards results, courage, responsibility and safety unite generations, environments, and cultures. The Sport Day at Orlik is an opportunity to develop motor skills, but first and foremost, to meet friends and family - adds President Bednarek.

In accordance with the signed cooperation agreement, "Sports Day at Orlik" will be promoted by the Fight Boredom Foundation, which organizes, among others, the National Sports Day in Poland on 7 October. Then, on the area of the PGE National Stadium in Warszawa there will be an Orlik zone, where a mini football tournament will be held. The RECAL Foundation will also be a partner of the event, which during the Sports Day will enable to carry out environmental recycling collections of metal cans at selected Orlik areas.

The first "Sports Day at Orlik" was awarded the Honorary Patronage of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and the Polish Olympic Committee. Support was also provided by the Lotto Foundation and a network of sports shops - GO Sport - which subsidized the organization of the event. The Ekstraklasa Foundation, which has been working with the Foundation for Physical Education Development, has been the supporting partner of the event. Thanks to the involvement of the sports partner - Polish Soccer Skills - on 9 September, recognized football coaches will supervise the warm-ups at Orliks along with sports stars.
