Football from behind the scenes

Seeing how important the diet is in the development of young football players, we want to support the parents and players in their daily meal preparation. That is why we introduce a cycle of dietary advice for young players. The corner of advice is prepared by our dietary consultant, Erwina Szymczyk.

James Collins, Giulano Posera, Matteo Pincella, what connects these people? James Collins is a dietician from Arsenal London connected with the team since 2010, Matteo Pincella is responsible for preparing the food for Juventus F.C. team, Matt is a nutrition specialist in Tottenham Hotspur LTD, Giulano Posera is the private dietician of Lionel Messi. The best ones know how to eat, do you? Do you pay attention to what you eat every day? Do you come to trainings properly prepared when it comes to nutrition and hydration?

What this is all about? Why nutrition plays such a big role? Every young sportsman being in a period of continued growth needs more food than an adult person, especially when training couple times a week. What matters it not only the amount but also the quality of the food and the time of the consumption. Through a proper way of nutrition you can improve your potential, stay healthy and strong. If you don’t stop to think about the training while preparing your meals, you can experience accelerated tiredness during matches and trainings, higher susceptibility to injuries and colds which in consequence can lead to absences on matches and trainings.

For the next 9 weeks I will try to help you understand few important issues. Every Thursday, on Polish Soccer Skills fan page will appear a post concerning nutrition of young sportsmen.  You will get to know how to eat during the week, how to prepare yourself for the match, hydrate yourself, prevent discomfort from alimentary canal (stomach ache, stitch), how to choose healthy snacks, improve regeneration and eat on the road.

Before all the series of tips, here’s the tip of the day: Try new tastes, be flexible.

Your diet should be based on products from different food groups in order to give you energy needed for training and competition as well as your growth and development. Eat varied meals, try new tastes. Young sportsmen should develop the flexibility of their food choices to be prepared for unexpected situations while travelling. A sportsman who limits himself to few products only, in a difficult situation (tournaments, foreign gatherings) may not provide enough amount of energy and nutrients needed to perform. Be open! This week try food you haven’t liked before. Remember! Our tastes change with age, maybe this time you will take a liking to it J
